Small-grain legumes

We are breeding domestic small grain legumes such as alfalfa, red clover and white clover. Domestic legumes are regional protein suppliers – for both humans and animals.

Legumes have the availability to fix nitrogen due to their symbiosis with bacteria. With the help of the bacteria, legumes transfer atomic nitrogen into organically bound nitrogen. Legumes also increase the fertility of the soil and provide a high quality and high protein crop for feeding. Due to the dwindling of fossil energy, legumes are indispensable for securing a healthy food, for both humans and animals, in the nearby future.
